The Detroit Music Awards Foundation is having a party for the Detroit Music Community. We want to invite you to come out and hear some tunes.
Rub some elbows. Have a drink. Pick a fight.
We can take it. ;)
During nearly 25 years of existence and 21 ceremonies, we've done a lot of good things for the Detroit metro area music community, made a lot of friends and helped some worthy organizations doing great work here. We've created a serious, transparent way to shine a spotlight on and honor our local musicians and their art. We're proud of that.
But some people still don't get it. And we're tired of hearing them whine.
Here's the deal: Participating in and being part of the Detroit Music Awards is not brain surgery. We make it easy. And simple. And inclusive. It's a wide-open landscape to state your case, say your piece and be part of a scene that's larger than your own. A lot of you are doing it, and we love having your energy.
Does everybody win? Of course not. Does everyone involved in the Detroit music community have an opportunity to be part of the process? Without a doubt. But year in and year out we constantly hear from the malcontents who choose to stand apart - not participate - and just grouse. It's tiresome. It's insincere. It's wrong. We know it's more fun for some to be negative, but we love the music that's made here and the people who make it too much to let you have that fun at their expense.
But we'll be indulgent. Perhaps some of you really DON'T know how to have your voice heard in what's a wide-open process. We're happy to help clue you in. So come on down to Amnesia in the MotorCity Casino Hotel on Tuesday, October 16th for this FREE event - networking, cash bar, snacks, awesome raffle prizes, and music - plus the announcement of our 2013 show date. We can even sign you up as a voting member! ** All of the DMAF principals will be on hand to talk about what we do, how we do it and how your concerns can be addressed and, we're confident, alleviated. We really are nice folks, and we really are all about the music. Are you? Let's talk about it. If you can't make it out on the 16th, we'll find another time.
Oh, and those of you who ARE with us already, please come on down, too. You can help spread the word. And we love hanging out with you.
Cheers!
DMAF
